5 Signs That It’s Time To Rebrand Your Online Business

Some of the common mistakes I see are changing logo design every few months or spending too much time re-designing Instagram feed because they think this is the key reason why they aren’t attracting their ideal clients or the reason why their business isn’t growing online.


While of course, your logo design any other visual elements is a key asset to have as it forms the first impression, but so often there is an underlying reason.


So in today’s blog post, I laid out 5 signs it’s time to rebrand your online business — and perhaps your underlying reason is one of those?



Sign 1 | You’re Transitioning Your Business Model

For instance, if you are a graphic designer and you want to transition to a health coach then it’s clear it’s time for a rebrand because it’s a totally different industry.


Another example that is indirect, less straightforward, I announced on my social media that my business is transitioning from branding & web design studio to a brand strategist + coach.


Because I was transitioning and although my brand name hasn’t changed because it still resonates with my mission, I decided to do a rebrand.



Sign 2 | Your Vision is No Longer Aligned to Your Current Business

Vision is where you want to go or to be in the future; what positive impact do you want to make in this world?

You need to know your why before you get to do the what and the how.


Your mission is how you will do it, and your vision is what you’ll do. If you find that your vision is no longer aligned with your current business then it is probably time rebrand.


Say perhaps prior to this realization you wanted to create a supportive community in the creative industry but now you realized that you want to create a supportive community within the creative industry but just for women – then it is time to transition.


Sign 3 | You’re Struggling to Stand Out Online from Your Competitors

Sometimes, it’s not because of your marketing strategies that aren’t working or your social media graphics/logo design isn’t attractive enough. Maybe it is because you’re lacking the true essence deep within your brand, the solid foundations of your brand.


Branding is so much more than just your visuals, logo design, marketing collaterals. It’s about the experience.


If you are struggling to stand out from your competitors then maybe something is lacking and once you have a solid foundation you won’t have to “compete”. You have your own community. You have your ideal clients and they come to you because they know you can help with their needs and they will be excited to work with.

Sign 4 | You’re Simply Not Attracting Your Ideal Clients

Do you find yourself attracting the wrong audience that you’re simply not excited to be working with?


If so, then it’s time to do a rebrand. Ultimately at the end of the day, I know that if you are my ideal client, I know you don’t just want to work with ANY other clients, you want to work with your ideal clients.


But time after time, if you only see your non-ideal clients coming up to you for a new project inquiry then it’s time to do something about it. Think about what that might cost you? Your inner happiness.


This was one of the strongest and most valuable lessons I learned in 2018.

Sign 5 | You’ve outgrown your brand

This, in fact, is a good sign!

Most online businesses who are just starting out might want to DIY or perhaps don’t have the financial capability just yet to hire a brand designer and often times, may purchase an affordable template from Etsy.

When you have outgrown your brand, the ins-and-outs of your brand and foundation should be 100% reflective of who you are as a brand. There is no “right” or “wrong” time to do it if you’ve simply outgrown your brand.

Whilst most articles on Google says that you only have to rebrand within 3-5 years time but I totally disagree with this. I’m not saying that you have to rebrand every few months because when done right, it should genuinely see you through in the next 12+ months at least.

But that being said, there is no “perfect” timing to do so.



What you need to do before you even redesign your brand

Before you even do a rebrand you need to check the ins-and-outs of your brand.

What I mean is when you say you want to do a rebrand, it’s not just about finding a new designer to create new visuals, typographies or color palettes.


Take a step back and look at the foundations of your brand, you need to know your what and true intentions before you can ask for help on the visuals.
